(Greenwood, S.C., June 4, 2014) – Self Regional Healthcare, a not-for-profit healthcare system serving the 250,000 residents of the Lakelands region, is now a seven-time Gallup Great Workplace Award recipient.

Team members Crystal Lambert (Self Regional’s 2014 Team Member of the Year) and Kendra Keeney (Finalist for the Gallup Organization’s 2014 Manager of the Year) represented the health system at the recent award presentation in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Gallup Organization published its annual listing of Great Workplaces; this year, 36 organizations in the world were named recipients.

With its 2014 recognition, Self Regional has joined an even more elite group of recipients; the South Carolina health system is one of only six organizations worldwide to achieve the honor of seven or more Gallup Great Workplace awards.

Other Gallup Great Workplace Award winners include global brands such as Hyatt Hotels, Mars, Inc., and Charles Schwab. Only one other hospital in the United States has received the award as many times as Self Regional.

“Having team members who are engaged and who deeply care about their jobs means we commit ourselves to take better care of our patients, and we look for ways to improve the way we deliver care and services,” said Jim Pfeiffer, President and CEO of Self Regional. “Achieving a seventh consecutive Gallup Great Workplace award is a tremendous honor.”

Despite challenging economic times and sweeping changes impacting the healthcare industry, Self Regional was recognized for its highly engaged workforce, and ranked in the 97th percentile when compared to other healthcare clients around the world. In addition to surveying team members from the organization, the Gallup Organization also utilizes financial data, patient encounter data, safety data and employee retention.

“Only 13% of employees worldwide are engaged at work, according to Gallup’s new 142-country study on the State of the Global Workplace. The organizations we honor are ones that have worked hard to reverse what is typical and they average nine engaged employees for every actively disengaged employee,” notes Jim Harter, Ph.D., Gallup’s Chief Scientist of workplace management and wellbeing and coauthor of Wellbeing: The Five Essential Elements.
