Associated Builders and Contractors, a national construction industry trade association, has awarded the Excellence in Construction Eagle Award to Rodgers Builders, Inc. for the recent demolition and renovation projects at Self Regional Healthcare. The award recognizes the project as first place in the $10 million-$25 million Healthcare category for the Self Regional Old Main Demolition, Cafeteria, Laboratory, and Main Corridor renovations, and for excellence in the following criteria: safety, quality, innovative programs, scheduling and excellence in project management. The project began on January 10, 2014, and was completed on June 12, 2015.

Lee Lowe, Director of Facility Services & Grounds Maintenance at Self Regional Healthcare stated, “The building crew did a great job with the demolition process. Taking four floors from a building without disturbing the rest of the hospital is no easy task. I’m happy to say that during the entirety of the project patient care was never compromised. That’s something we’re really proud of.”

In order to maintain the schedule set at the start of the project, the building plan was phased to allow the continuation of regular hospital activities, no small task given one of the first items of business was to address two primary electrical rooms for the hospital. The demolition and renovations were timed so any department needing to move could do so without disturbance to surrounding areas.

Rodgers Builders received the Eagle Award regionally in November of 2015, but also nationally in March of 2016. “The honors are reflective of the whole team, both Rodgers and Self Regional,” said Lee Lowe. “Winning these awards truly speaks to the dedication and hard work of the entire organization. Everyone played an important part in guaranteeing that everything was business as usual in the hospital throughout the project. All team members maintained their professionalism and commitment to quality care for patients. This award is for all of Self Regional.”

The benefits of the complex construction are evident. Guests at the hospital are now able to find their way around the facilities with more ease than ever before. Additionally, operational efficiency and patient comfort have improved, evolving with the growing healthcare needs of the Lakelands.
