(Greenwood, S.C., April 4, 2018) A successful, drug-free light therapy is now available at Self Regional Healthcare’s Optimum Life Center, and is changing the lives of cancer patients with neuropathy.
Anodyne® Infrared Therapy is a light treatment that increases circulation
and reduces pain, stiffness, and muscle spasms in patients with neuropathy, a common side effect of chemotherapy.
Jessi Carter, PT, and Heather Faulkner, PT, enjoy the opportunity to work closely with patients and form lasting bonds.
“Patients are typically prescribed a four-week trial with two, 40-minute sessions per week depending on the nature of their damage and what we recommend,” said Jessi. “The results take place pretty quickly and it’s rewarding to witness.”
Heather added, “It really is amazing to see the positive change in each person who comes in for the Anodyne treatment. We love watching the transformation of their progress and seeing the relief the results bring.”
Anodyne therapy works to heal the damaged nerves and increase blood flow to the effected area(s) through several small light pads placed on the skin, and can be used on patients of all activity and ability levels.
“Neuropathy was the worst side effect of chemotherapy for me,” said Catherine Byrd, a former cancer patient at Self Regional Healthcare. “People think it’s over after chemo, but it’s not. My feet and hands were so badly affected; even a bed sheet sliding over them would cause me horrible pain. I started going to Anodyne therapy and it felt so good to gradually get feeling back to those areas. I am able to sleep again and I feel so much better.”
The Optimum Life Center plans to expand this service in the future to non-cancer patients who experience neuropathy, and are currently the only facility in Greenwood and the surrounding counties to offer the life-changing treatment.
