(Greenwood, S.C., May 12, 2022)—Self Regional hosted an event at Lander University honoring rising junior nursing majors named in the first round of the Self Regional Scholars Program on Thursday, Apr. 28.
Established in early 2022, the opportunity is extended to Lander’s most eligible nursing students who excel academically, involve themselves in community initiatives and possess career potential, among other characteristics, each year.
The Scholars recognized were Christina Aguayo, of Las Cruces, N.M.; Sydney Brewster, of Iva; Kirsten Dale, of Pageland; LeeAnna Fingerlin, of Saluda; Sierra Harrison, of Greenwood; Anna Joy Hulsey, of Gaffney; Cyrus Kelly, of Sharpsburg, Ga.; Aislynn Lopez, of Greenwood; Sarah Smith, of Gilbert; Autumn Smoke, of Barnwell; Carlee Stockman, of Greenwood; Blain Tomas, of Greenwood; Abigail Wallace, of Chapin; and Kacey Weathers, of Gray Court.
Since the recent announcement that South Carolina is fourth in the country for a predicted nursing shortage in the next decade, the Self Regional Scholars Program was designed as a solution, aiming to create a secure and confident group of qualified nurses for our communities.
The program also highlights Self Regional’s efforts to be an optimal health care provider in South Carolina. “We want to create an environment here that provides high-quality care and an excellent experience for every patient who seeks care with us,” said Dr. Matt Logan, CEO of Self Regional Healthcare. “I want every single one of you to come work for us,” he added to the honorees, “I would love for you to have your whole career with us, because I know Lander provides excellent training.”
