Self Regional Healthcare Announces $143,000 In Community Health Improvement Grants
(Greenwood, S.C., July 11, 2014) – Improving the community’s health is a core component of Self Regional Healthcare’s mission, and this quarter the Community Outreach Committee has selected five local nonprofits to receive a total of $143,000 to:
Establish and maintain Wi-fi for ambulances in Greenwood and Abbeville counties to communicate heart attack test results between the paramedics and the Emergency Care Center.
Offer a safe haven to homeless men, women and children.
Expand the popular Girls on the Run program to 13 additional elementary and middle schools and Connie Maxwell in fall 2014.
Visit expectant and new moms who face challenges with limited income and resources.
Serve more children who need access to healthcare through transportation, healthcare appointments and assistance with non-covered medical costs that parents can’t afford.
The five local organizations approved to receive funding:
- Carolina Health Center’s Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Program–$45,000
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS) of Greenwood and Abbeville counties–$9,000
- Greenwood Pathway House–$25,000
- Healthy Learners Greenwood–$50,000
- Partnerships for Healthy Children’s Girls on the Run program–$14,000
“As the health provider for the region, we are committed to helping improve the health of our community,” said Frank Wideman of the Community Outreach Committee. “These organizations are working each day to find ways to make significant changes in people’s lives—helping new moms, sheltering homeless individuals and families, challenging young women to find joy through physical activity, buying glasses for kids who can’t see well enough to perform in school, making sure a heart attack patient’s ECG is transmitted before the ambulance arrives at the Emergency Room. We are proud to help with their efforts.”
With these grants, the amount of community funding Self Regional has provided in 2014 totals $589,500. The Community Outreach committee, which consists of community and business leaders, physicians, and representatives from Self Regional, consider proposal requests on a quarterly basis and make decisions on funding.
