(Greenwood, SC, August 18, 2016) — Self Regional Healthcare’s Community Health Committee has awarded three grants to local organizations.
Clinica Gratis, a free source of health care to low-income families in the Lakelands area, was awarded $94,000 to continue support of expanded translation services, transportation for patients, telehealth outreach and the development of a dental care program. Previously, Clinica Gratis applied for and
received a grant from the Community Health Committee to support existing clinic programs and decrease the number of uninsured individuals who use Emergency rooms as primary care facilities.
The Greenwood Pathway House received $50,000 to construct a new homeless shelter for women, the continuation of a prior project also funded by a grant from the SRH Community Health Committee. The previous grant was used to build a shelter for homeless men in the area, and the new female shelter will be a welcomed
service for both women and their children seeking refuge.
Cokesbury Community Development Corporation (CCDC) received funding to cover a portion of the expenses for their Summer Tutorial Enrichment Program, a six-week outreach camp designed to support services for children in the Hodges/Cokesbury community. The mission of the program is to provide children in rural areas with activities that challenge them academically and physically. The CCDC was granted $4,412 to cover remaining costs of the 2016 summer program.
“We are fortunate to be able to help local organizations that do so much good for the community,” said Dr. David Isenhower, Chief Medical Informatics Officer at Self Regional Healthcare. “It’s a testament to their hard work and dedication to receive these grants that allow them to expand their services and benefit more people in need.”
