(Greenwood, SC, September 7, 2022) – The boards of Self Regional Healthcare (SRH) and Abbeville Area Medical Center (AAMC) announced Wednesday, September 7, 2022, their intention to begin working toward an affiliation agreement between the two healthcare organizations.
Dr. Matthew Logan, President & CEO of Self Regional Healthcare, said “We firmly believe that AAMC and SRH are uniquely suited for an affiliation due to our proximity, our complementary cultures, and the alignment of our missions.”
“The financial and regulatory challenges facing healthcare providers today are significant and it just makes sense that neighboring hospitals, who already have a well-established, long-term, collaborative relationship, explore partnership opportunities that put the health needs of their communities first,” Dr. Logan said.
“Affiliations are not unusual,” stated Rod Boula, AAMC Interim CEO. “Factors such as low reimbursement rates, increased and very complex regulation, reduced patient volumes, and increased amounts of free and reduced cost uncompensated care are affecting both small and large hospitals nationwide. Affiliation is one way we can work together with other healthcare organizations to reduce cost and continue to provide the most convenient, quality healthcare possible.”
In June 2022, Self Regional responded to a Request for Proposal (RFP) from AAMC, and with Wednesday’s announcement, both organizations will begin working together to craft a Letter of Intent that will define the partnership.
