Greenwood boasts beautiful landscaped parks, playgrounds, sports fields, connected green spaces, a dog park, and more than 12 miles of managed, marked public trails. Annual races, sporting and special events are held throughout the year, golf courses and local athletic clubs all encourage an active lifestyle.
Greenwood Area Parks
The City of Greenwood partners with Greenwood County Parks and Recreation and Greater Greenwood Parks and Trails Foundation to enhance greenspace throughout Greenwood. Parks, gardens, playgrounds and trails are available to everyone.
Heritage Trail
Along Greenwood’s abandoned railroad lines, the Heritage Trail extends 2.5 miles and offers an excellent opportunity for biking, walking, jogging and skating. The trailhead is on South Main Street in the City of Greenwood, next to the Railroad Historical Center at 908 Main St South.
Grace Street Dog Park
A safe, comfortable, and exciting park for dogs and their owners to enjoy quality time together. There are separate spaces for small and large dogs. Funded solely from private donations, the Dog Park is located at 112 Merrywood Drive.
Lake Greenwood State Park
Lake Greenwood State Park is known locally as the host site for the South Carolina Festival of Flowers Triathlon held each June. In addition to hosting the annual triathlon, the park provides year-round opportunities for excellent South Carolina bass fishing, boating, and offers shoreline campsites and nature trails.
Ninety Six National Historic Site
Greenwood County is home to the Ninety Six National Historic Site. The site commemorates the Battle for Star Fort and the colonial trading post of Ninety Six. Each year the park welcomes over 50,000 visitors from across the U.S. The park offer several special events throughout the year including the annual Autumn Candlelight Tour.
Golf Greenwood
With a high concentration of courses in the area, Greenwood has enjoyed a long history as a destination for local and regional golf events, including the SC Open Championship, college championships, “Road to the LPGA” Symetra Tour, and other conferences and tournaments. Greenwood’s mild climate affords golfers the opportunity to golf year-round at quality courses with warmer weather, beautiful terrain and a healthy dose of southern hospitality.
