SRH Receives Susan G. Komen Grant

Women in the Lakelands who are uninsured or can’t afford a needed mammogram just received a priceless gift—Self Regional Healthcare has been selected as a 2015 Susan G. Komen Mountains to Midlands grant recipient. The SRH Cancer Center will receive $52,453 to be used over the next 12 months for medical imaging such as mammograms and diagnostic tests and breast health education and screening outreach.

SRHF Women’s Health Classic Hosts Greatest Women Golfers

The Women’s Health Classic kicks off its week-long schedule of activities in Greenwood, SC on Monday, May 4, and runs through May 10 with the Mother’s Day afternoon announcement of the winner of the Symetra Tour’s largest purse, totaling $200,000. The second annual tournament also raises the largest charitable donation on the 22-stop national tour, which will support women’s health initiatives at Self Regional, as well as other charities and service organizations in the Lakelands area of S.C.

The program’s goal is to increase awareness of what to do in a cardiac emergency, train more people on how to perform hands-only CPR and to equip various facilities in the Lakelands region with AEDs in case of an emergency.

Student volunteer alumna Kandace Ryans is now an LPN working at Internal Medicine of the Piedmont. Ms. Ryans worked as a student volunteer for many summers during high school.

Self Regional Seeks Summer Volunteers for 2015

Self Regional Healthcare’s Volunteer Services department is now accepting applications for student volunteers for the summer. Student volunteers are an important part of the health system’s volunteer program, and offer young adults a first-hand experience into the day-to-day operations of a healthcare environment. Self Regional has a maximum of 35 slots for high school volunteers, so students are encouraged to begin and submit their applications prior to the April 17 deadline.

Self Regional Healthcare has welcomed three new members to its Board of Trustees. S.C. Governor Nikki Haley appointed construction business owner Hubert “Joe” Chandler; financial executive James M. Manley, Jr., CPA; and retired IBM executive Linda T. McDonald to six-year terms on the board.

Heydel Respiratory Therapy Scholarship Awarded to PTC Student

The SRH Foundation has announced that Newberry native Julie Culbertson is the recipient of the second annual M. John and Drenda Heydel Respiratory Therapy Scholarship. Culbertson is in her final year of the respiratory therapy program, and plans to work with Critical Care patients with her RT degree.

SRH Announces Another $268,770 In Community Grants

SRH has awarded $268,700 in its latest round of community improvement grants, to help local organizations provide emergency defibrillators in public places, offer preventive health measures, provide treatment for children and adults of sexual violence and abuse, and assist bilingual/bicultural patients who require healthcare. 2014 Community Health Grants Now Total $858,200.
